Toothbrush Choices: Keeping Smiles Bright And Healthy!
You brush your teeth and ensure that your children brush their teeth, in part, because our Dallas, TX team tells you that you should. You also do it because you know it’s for the protection of your family’s oral health. While you probably have most of the details pretty well figured out at this point, it’s not unusual for even a very dedicated individual to suddenly feel full of questions about any aspect of dental care. Perhaps you wake up one day to recognize you really don’t know much about the type of toothbrush you and your kiddos should be using. Fortunately, when you seek answers from us, you’ve come to the right place!
To Choose: Soft, Medium, Or Hard?
Talk with our team during a dental checkup about the best toothbrush you can select for your child’s oral health (and your own, as well) and you may discover you’re right on track or that you’re not met with quite the answer you expect. Are soft bristles the way to go for smile care, you’re wondering, or are the medium or hard appropriate? While you will see all of these options, when you’re out shopping, we remind you that the only selection you should make for any member of your family is soft. This is because they will allow you to gently but completely clean your teeth and along your gumline. Anything firmer will cause irritation, possible damage, and may encourage eroded enamel and gum recession!
To Choose: Manual Or Electric?
The goal of brushing your teeth, of course, is to keep oral health at an all time high, all the time! By brushing (and flossing), you remove the plaque and its bacteria that can lead to serious problems like cavities, infection, gingivitis, and more. So, you may guess that the best choice is electric. However, the truth is, it’s completely up to you. Unless we suggest otherwise for any particular reasons, you can just as effectively cleanse your smiles with manual brushes as you can with electric. Are the benefits to selecting a powered brush? Sure! However, remember that it’s not necessary.
To Choose: Fresh Brush (Or Not)?
Should you open up a new toothbrush yet? The answer is easy:
- You and your children should open a new brush up for optimal dental hygiene, once a toothbrush has been in use for about three to four months.
- If the brush is looking worn early, then go ahead and replace it!
