Family Hand Washing: 3 Reasons To Start Now!
You have probably heard us mention before that it’s a good idea to wash your hands before you brush and floss your smile. You have probably thought about this before, though it doesn’t mean you’ve necessarily put it into practice. While this is certainly a wise decision any time of year (and all year long), our Dallas, TX team takes this time (as fall has just begun) to remind you. There are a few very compelling reasons to begin washing your hands as a family before your dental hygiene time together (and potentially afterwards, too!).
1: Who Knows Where Your Hands Have Been
You touch things all day long and so do your kiddos. When you’re reaching for a toothbrush and toothpaste to keep smiles cavity-free, you might not give the action as much thought as if you were reaching for a French fry or to literally place your fingers in your mouth. Don’t forget though that you may still end up transferring germs onto products that will make their way into your mouth (perhaps your child touches the head of his or her toothbrush). Our team reminds you that washing hands before dental hygiene is always the smartest choice (particularly if the session is going to include flossing, which really does include placing fingertips directly into your mouth!).
2: Yep: It’s Flu Season
Of course, we don’t want to focus too much on the fact that it’s flu season because nobody wants to talk about it, especially just as the weather is finally starting to cooperate. However, we do want to remind you that if you get into the habit of washing hands before dental hygiene, throughout the day, and always before your hand goes anywhere near your face, you and your family are practicing some pretty wonderful prevention against viruses. You can help combat ending up with influenza, the common cold, and more this way! Once you and your children are accustomed to doing this, it’s a fantastic habit that can last a lifetime, permitting everyone to avoid sniffles and more and, instead, enjoy the brief autumn weather that’s coming our way.
3: Again, You’re Touching Your Mouth During Hygiene
Yes, we know, we just mentioned this. We want to remind you to consider rinsing your hands with soap and water at the end of brushing and flossing sessions, too, but primarily when the flu is in our area! This will help stop it from spreading from one family member to the next!
