Answer: It is possible for this to happen. While consistent care after placement will ensure the filling remains in place, offering effective protection for many years, we encourage you to let us know if a tooth with a filling hurts or feels extremely sensitivity suddenly. When you come in ASAP, it is much easier to treat the tooth without complication and send you on your merry way.

Question: Can a dental filling from the past cause my child to experience problems with bite balance and discomfort?

Answer: Yes, this is possible. When we place a filling, the visit is not through until we are certain we have made any necessary adjustments to ensure your child’s bite is balanced and comfortable. Fortunately, when you come in for visits, we can check on older work and address any changes that need to be made to promote a safe, comfortable bite.

Question: Does filling a tooth with a dental filling make it immune to additional problems with tooth decay or other concerns in the future?

Answer: It does not! We are happy you asked this. It is still essential that your child takes care of all of his or her teeth, so the filled tooth and all other teeth and tissues continue to remain healthy and safe.
