We Have Sedation Expertise

dallas kids sedation

We want to ensure that each and every child we see enjoys a positive experience in our office. To do so, we can offer sedation in addition to local anesthetic, so they are comfortable even if they have dental anxiety. In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist talks about our sedation expertise.

When Children Need a Calming Medication

When do we recommend these calming medications for your child? Sedation can help keep kids comfortable when they are undergoing more extensive treatments, such as crown placement or tooth extraction, or a pulpotomy. If your child has a phobia of the dentist, this can help them stay comfortable and relaxed during the treatment, so they have a positive experience in the office and do not fear their next visit. This can also aid in ensuring better comfort for children with special needs as well.

Choosing the Right Option for Your Little One

We have trained anesthesiologists on our team who are also board-certified specialists and members of the Pediatric Dental Anesthesia Associates. They have experience and expertise in administering sedation and monitor your kids throughout the procedure. During any treatments that require even mild sedation, they will be on hand to monitor your child!

Three Options to Choose From

What calming solutions do we offer your children? The most mild and common form is nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as laughing gas. This is inhaled through a mask over the nose, and allows your little one to reach a state of calm and euphoria, with little memory of the procedure, while still remaining conscious. The effects wear off right away so kids can even return to school afterward.

Oral conscious is given in a pill or liquid form prior to treatment, and produces a deeper state of calm. The effects take time to wear off completely, so your little one will needs to be taken home and cannot return to school afterward. IV is the deepest form available and is administered intravenously. This again leaves kids a little groggy. If you have any questions about these treatment options, or if you would like to discuss managing your child’s dental anxiety, then contact our team today. Summer is a great time for a checkup and cleaning visit, so you kids can receive treatment without missing classes, so reach out today!
