We Offer Children’s Sedation!

dallas kids sedationOur team understands that sometimes kids have anxiety about seeing the dentist, and that they also may need to undergo more involved treatments to handle concerns like dental infection. Which is why we offer calming options for them. In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist talks about children’s sedation!

When Your Child May Need a Calming Agent

Often, kids with little to no experience visiting the dentist have anxiety about the idea, and could feel very nervous. With sedation, we help them enter a calm and relaxed state, making it possible to undergo the care they need to enjoy a bright and healthy smile. These calming solutions could also help those with special needs. Kids undergoing more extensive treatments, such as tooth extraction or a root canal, may benefit from these calming treatments too. Our team will take several factors into account when we select one, such as age, weight, medical history, and of course, anxiety levels and special needs.

Our Expertise and Training

Our team is skilled and experienced treating little smiles. We know how to talk to kids and help them feel welcomed and comfortable, so they have a positive experience and don’t dread their next checkup and cleaning appointment. But we also have experience in the administration of anesthesia. Our team includes anesthesiologists who board-certified specialists and also members of the Pediatric Dental Anesthesia Associates. They will be on hand for any procedure using dental anesthesia, to ensure all of our strict guidelines and protocols are being followed to the letter, and to monitor your child throughout.

Our Sedation Options

We offer three main treatment options. For many cases, we administer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. The child wears a mask over his or her nose, and inhales a gas to enter a state of euphoria. Once they’re comfortable and relaxed we will begin treatment. Your little one is conscious the entire time, and able to respond to the dentist. The effects wear off right away, so your children could even return to school.

Oral sedation provides a deeper state of relaxation, but your child is still conscious. Take in pill or liquid form prior to treatment, kids become very relaxed with little to no memory of the procedure afterward. The effects take time to wear off, so your little one likely won’t return to school afterward. IV is the deepest form, and we monitor your child throughout the process. Again, the effects will take time to wear off fully.
