Use Your Dental Benefits Before The Year Ends

dallas dental benefitsIf you have dental insurance, then you have benefits that will expire unless used before the end of the year. Now is a great time to use them and ensure your children close 2022 with bright and healthy smiles! In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist talks about how to use all of your benefits before they’re gone!

Dental Insurance Benefits

If you have dental insurance coverage for your children, then you have a set amount of benefits that can be used in a year. These can often cover checkups and cleanings, and reduce the price of necessary treatments like dental fillings or crown placement. If you have a health savings coconut, then you may have earned funds that will vanish on midnight of December 31st unless used. Instead of allowing these benefits and funds to become lost, why not use them to help your kids start a new year with a new smile!

The Initial Checkup and Cleaning Appointments

The process starts with a checkup and dental cleaning appointment, in which we will take a close look at your child’s smile for signs of trouble. We can use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras to identify cavities and infections, as well as teeth grinding. We can make sure baby teeth arrive and fall out as they should, and that permanent ones can erupt without complications, reducing the risk of misalignment. In the same visit, we will also use an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual pick to remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth. The cleaning helps lower the risk of tooth decay and gingivitis, and fights bad breath and teeth stains too.

Other Treatments for Little Smiles

As we mentioned above, we have dental filling and crowns that are safe for little smiles, and can often blend with them as well. To help lower the risk of tooth decay, we could apply a fluoride gel during the checkup appointment to strengthen the enamel and fight cavities. Likewise, we also have dental sealants that coat the rear teeth, which are hard for kids to reach when they brush and floss, and therefore lowers the risk of cavities there. Dental sealants can actually stay in place for up to ten years in some cases, and cling to the more vulnerable parts of the tooth as they wear away gradually with time.
