Schedule A Spring Time Visit For Your Kids

dallas kids checkup visit

Spring is here and the weather is finally starting to warm up. In addition to spring cleaning the house, why not take time to spring clean your family’s smiles too? Your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist can use a checkup and cleaning to help improve oral health and brighten little smiles, so their teeth stay strong and beautiful!

Dental Checkups

When was the last time your child had a checkup visit? We recommend the first exam at around age one, once the first baby teeth have erupted. At around age two, regular exams every six months are highly recommended. Children are just as susceptible to tooth decay as adults, as a routine visit lets us identify and treat decay in the earliest stages. Remember, even though baby teeth fall out on their own, this could happen months or even years after the decay forms, so waiting it out could mean premature tooth loss, painful symptoms, and dental misalignment. We also make sure the smile is strong and developing as it should!

Spring Cleaning

Now on to the actual cleaning portion! The cleaning means we gently and thoroughly remove all plaque and tartar buildup from the surfaces of your child’s smile. This takes only a short time and involves the use of an ultrasonic scaling device and a manual pick. Afterward, we thoroughly polish the teeth for a brighter appearance. This helps lower the risk of tooth decay and gingivitis, and also fights bad breath and teeth stains as well. Your children can smile with confidence, and taking action at home like brushing and flossing and enjoying a good diet can also limit how much plaque can actually form.

Preventive Treatments

During these six months visits, we could also implement prevent treatments to lower the risk of tooth decay. For example, we can apply fluoride to the teeth in a gel form, which helps strengthen them to lower the chances of tooth decay forming. Your children also benefit from fluoride toothpaste at home, using a rice-sized amount for kids three and younger and a pea-sized amount for those three and older.

We also have dental sealants. This is a unique acrylic coating we add to the rear molars, which are often difficult for kids to reach when they brush and floss. The sealants stay in place for up to ten years in some cases, preventing food particles from being trapped between these molars and lowering the risk of tooth decay.
