Holidays And Family Travel: Stuff To Consider!
Yes! You had the conversations, you booked the tickets, you got every last detail ironed out: You’re leaving on a jet plane for a holiday destination with the family! Right. Now it’s time for the rest of the planning that will ensure you get from this point in time, onto the plane, and in celebration mode! While our Dallas, TX team is certain you’ve got all of those millions of little details in mind and that you’re ready to prepare, we would love to help with the smile care aspect of traveling with kids during this time of year. Ready for some classic (and less expected) tips? Keep them in mind and they will provide you with more help than you might have guessed!
Your Child’s Footwear!
We encourage parents to give some thought to where they’re headed and what the terrain will be like. If you’re planning on going on a hike in the hills on the West coast, make sure you and the kiddos have the right footwear! If you’re headed to the East coast and there’s a chance of ice and snow, go ahead and purchase some grippy boots (even though you may never wear them again in Texas!), so your family is not at a high risk of falling and dealing with oral health damage due to broken teeth!
Hydration
Planning on hopping on a couple of planes and maybe even heading into a different climate? It’s very important to remember that flying to your destination can contribute greatly to dehydration, as can other changes! Perhaps your kiddo takes a children’s antihistamine when you get on the plane. Load up on water, so everyone remains hydrated and happy (and so your oral health doesn’t falter due to dry mouth!).
Treat Possible Problems Before
If you feel like there’s a bit of an echo in the room because you’re certain you have heard us mention this before, that’s because this is one of those suggestions we mention over and over. Why? Well, because it’s very easy to completely overlook and it’s also a major game changer! Remember that when you decide to bring kids in for dental care before vacation, you completely erase the possibility of suddenly dealing with unexpected pain, problems, cavities, etc. that you could have so easily simply taken care of ahead of time. (Reminder: The gentle pressure on an airplane can aggravate discomfort associated with things like tooth decay, so treatment before is best).
