March Madness … And Your Family’s Smiles!

Are you quite as enthusiastic as our Dallas, TX practice is about March Madness? If the answer is yes, then just like us, you have painstakingly filled out your brackets and you are excitedly clearing your schedule to take in as many NCAA Tournament games as possible. If you’ve managed to get the whole family involved, then you’re probably having as much fun as we are! With that said, we thought, why not take this opportunity to help you enjoy yourselves and apply all of this madness to maintaining your best oral health, too? (After all, we are a dental practice, so it’s what we do!).

What Are The Odds?

Well, the odds that you’re going to complete the perfect NCAA bracket is considered nearly impossible. So the odds are quite low. Yet, we still participate for the fun of it because you never know (plus, who doesn’t love this fun way to playfully compete and watch basketball?). Good news for your family’s oral health, though: The odds are actually stacked in your favor! Fortunately, there’s no guesswork (or laborious pre-dental-hygiene brackets to fill out) to it. Allow us to remind you of what you should be doing this March and every month in order to promote excellent smile health for every member of your family:

  • Brush twice and floss once daily
  • Schedule visits with our practice twice a year!

Some March Madness Snack Suggestions

If you’re very serious about your brackets and about watching as much as you can, then you just might be gathering the family (and neighbors and friends) around the table, as you cross your fingers and hope that your teams win! In doing so, we encourage you to remember to consider everyone’s oral health as you prepare snacks. Of course, if you’re going to indulge in anything you wish, then have water on hand for everyone to drink (it will help rinse sugar particles and more from smile surfaces, while promoting a neutral oral environment). Or, if you’re happy to place smile-friendly snacks out, remember:

  • Nuts are an easy snack that are very good for your smile!
  • Chopped fruits and veggies are easy to eat and are beneficial for your teeth, too
  • Calcium-rich dairy foods, such as cheese and yogurt dip are healthy for teeth and fun for snack time!
