Smile-Safe Fun For Your Little Valentines

Do you love making Valentine’s Day special for your little ones because the day is all about love, and who better to lavish with something special? However, is there part of you that isn’t sure how to make the day safe for everyone’s smile health because your go-to ideas all include desserts? Not a problem. While a little bit of sweetness on this holiday isn’t out of the question, we can certainly help steer you in a direction you can feel good about!

Avoid The Sticky, Hard Treats

If you’re assuming that you are going to have to avoid giving your kids candy or sugar on Valentine’s Day because it’s not geared toward protecting smile health, we of course won’t tell you that you should offer up sugar. However, there are some better ways to do it if you love incorporating sweets:

  • Don’t give your kids very hard pastries, hard message hearts, or anything else that can break teeth. Instead, offer something like soft cookies (they won’t damage tissue and they’ll rinse away from teeth quickly).
  • Don’t give your kids chewy, sticky candy, taffy, etc. The consistency of these sweet treats will end up adhering to teeth. Reach for the stuff that you know will wash away with a sip of milk, water, or even with saliva. A little box of truffles, for instance, is a better choice.

Plan An Activity!

One of the most exciting things to do that won’t harm anyone’s smile health is celebrating by spending quality time together on Valentine’s Day. Come up with a fun outing, for instance. Seek out community events, come up with your own ideas, or even plan to watch love-themed movies at home. It’s sure to entertain and be a lovely time (and it won’t impact your teeth and gums in the slightest).
