Dealing With Dental Anxiety
Does your child appear to struggle with some amount of dental anxiety even though you are so sure you have done nothing to bring about this issue? Don’t worry. The dental environment is a brand new place and children (adults, too) have wild imaginations. Remember, as well, that kids hear all sorts of things from friends at school and that sometimes, it’s just a matter of feeling a bit afraid of the unknown. Whatever the case, we would love to help you with your little one with the assistance of dental sedation and more!
About Sedation
When you have a child who feels quite anxious about dental care or particular procedures, the last thing we want is for visits to feel scary. We offer dental sedation to ensure your child can enjoy calm, relaxing, and enjoyable care. As you know, this will help show your little one that taking care of his or her teeth can be just fine! At our practice, we offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. (Note: We also rely on a pediatric anesthesiologist). Have questions? Please ask!
Remember The Little Things
If your child experiences dental anxiety, there are some easy things to keep in mind in addition to considering dental sedation. First, remember that it’s better to talk as little as possible about your own experiences with dental care (and when you do, to ensure everything you say is positive). We also encourage you to make dental visits cozy. Does your child have a favorite sweater? Stuffed animal? Blankie? Whatever gives your little one an added sensation of security is certainly worth bringing along with you. Of course, once your son or daughter arrives, we will do everything we can to create a calm and happy visit.
