Dental Sensitivity: What To Do?

Have you recently discovered that your child is experiencing dental sensitivity? Perhaps chewing has become uncomfortable. Maybe every time your child drinks something from the refrigerator, the sensations that follow are not very pleasant. We know that seeing your child feel anything other than happy and comfortable is not easy to handle. Fortunately, we are ready with simple suggestions for getting your child swift relief.

First, Relax

If your child is complaining about dental sensitivity, we encourage you to avoid jumping to any conclusions. We know that discomfort can become a very frustrating issue but it is often a sign of a minor problem we can easily treat. Regardless of the underlying cause, your very best course of action is to stay calm, schedule a dental visit with us, and follow some additional suggestions.

Watch For Temperature Extremes

Dental sensitivity is often caused or worsened by extremes in temperature. If your son or daughter is complaining of this issue, do your best to avoid serving ice-cold or extremely hot foods. Warm, room temperature, and cool foods will be less likely to aggravate sensitivity.

Switch To Another Toothpaste

Head to the dental hygiene aisle and check out the options for children’s sensitivity toothpaste if your child is at least six years of age. These will not be identical to those formulated for adults, so be sure to check out the age group the product is formulated for on the package. Ensure you schedule a visit right away, too, so we can protect the long-term health of your child’s smile.
