What To Expect From Your Child’s First Appointment

If your little one has never been to the dentist before, or has never been to our office, we want to talk about what to expect. Our team strives to help kids of all ages enjoy their time with us, and walk away with a better understanding of their oral health! In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist talks about what to expect from your child’s appointment with our team!

Scheduling an Appointment

If your little one is about age one with the first baby tooth erupting, then now is the time for the first. We also suggest regular six-month appointments beginning when a child reaches the age of two. Regular appointments are crucial for keeping kids in good oral health. Each visit is a chance to monitor their smile and ensure baby teeth arrive and fall out on schedule and that permanent teeth can erupt without complication. We also watch for issues like tooth decay, treating them before they can threaten little smiles. These visits help kids better understand their smiles and the importance of caring for them at home as well, and can prevent dental anxiety as adults.

What Happens When You Arrive

When you arrive and reach our waiting area, you can check in and fill out any forms that may be needed. Our waiting area has books and games to keep kids entertained and comfortable until it is time to see the dentist. You and your child will then be invited back to sit down and receive an examination from one of our hygienists and the dentist. Our team will also ask about their oral health habits and other activities that could impact their oral health, and conduct the exam with advanced digital imaging systems that use less radiation and provide instant high-definition images for a more accurate diagnosis.

The Cleaning

In the same visit, our team will also take time to gently and thoroughly remove all plaque and tartar from their teeth with a cleaning, a process that takes only a few minutes and helps lower the risk of issues like tooth decay. We could also discuss preventive treatments like fluoride or dental sealants, which can help further protect little smiles. We want to help kids start a new year with a healthier smile, and that starts with the checkup and cleaning visit, so see us soon!
