What Your Child Should Expect From The First Visit

Is your child seeing the dentist for the first time ever? Do they feel a little nervous? We understand, and we want to help reassure them! In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist talks about what kids should expect from their first appointment with our team!
When You Arrive
When talking about the upcoming appointment, you may want to reassure them that it won’t hurt or be uncomfortable, but this could have the opposite effect. Instead, just let them know the visit will be enjoyable and we will be looking at their smiles! Often, the first visit, especially if it is around age one, is a wellness one with a simple knee-to-knee lap exam.
When you and your little one arrive, you will walk through our doors and be greeted by our friendly and welcoming staff! You then check in for the appointment, and will wait in the waiting area for a team member to call your little one back. While waiting, we have a TV, free Wi-Fi, and magazines to keep kids entertained.
Time for Treatment!
When we are ready for you, a team member will call you and your child and lead you to meet the dentist. Our dentists know how to talk to kids to help them feel calm and relaxed, and will likely ask about hobbies and what brings them in for a visit. Our doctors and team members will always take time to explain the tools we’re using and why, and answer questions your child may have. Once the procedure or exam ends, you return to the front desk to check out. Our staff will tell you goodbye and set up your kid’s next appointment time.
Better Brushing and Flossing Habits
We offer routine exams and cleanings every six months, as well as preventive treatments like dental sealants and fluoride treatments, to help fight issues like tooth decay and gingivitis. But your child also needs to brush and floss daily too! We will talk to you and your child about proper brushing and flossing, healthy snacks, and other tips for keeping teeth bright and strong. If you have any questions about scheduling a visit, or if your little one has an aching or injured tooth, then contact our team right away to schedule a visit. We look forward to helping your child enjoy good oral health and a smile that shines!
