Same-Day Dental Emergency Visits

dallas kids emergency dentistryDental emergencies include injuries to the teeth, such as cracks or chips. This could also include teeth that have been knocked out or loose. When dental emergencies happen, we can help! In today’s blog, your Dallas, TX, pediatric dentist talks about our same-day dental emergency visits.

Responding to Dental Emergencies

When your little one suffers from a dental emergency, such as a chipped, cracked, or knocked out tooth, or sudden unexplained pain or an object caught between the teeth, let us know right away. We offer same-day emergency appointments on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If your children’s dental emergencies occur outside of these days, and outside of our normal business hours, then call our office and leave a message. We will reach out to you with a time to see us for treatment. Remember, even minor damage to a tooth could increase the risk of tooth decay or infection, threatening smile stability.

Preparing Your Kids for Their Visit

You can take actions to help ease discomfort for your child before they see us for treatment. If there is bleeding, you can use a piece of gauze or fabric to control it. You can also stem facial swelling with a cold compress to the side of the face. If a tooth is broken, see if you can gather any pieces and bring them to the office with you. If one is knocked out completely, pick it up only by the crown, never touch the root. Rinse it under running water to remove dirt and debris, but be sure tissues remain in place. You can then add it to a glass of milk or salt water, and bring it with you. You can also offer them an over-the-counter pain reliever to ease discomfort.

Protecting Smiles

We can repair little smiles using crowns or even composite resin. But what can be done to help lower the risk of future dental emergencies? Well, we can offer a mouthguard to protect kids who play full contact sports. Ensuring they maintain good oral health fights tooth decay that could weaken structure and leave it more prone to injury.

If you have any questions about our approach to dental emergency treatment, or if you want to schedule a visit to address a damaged or knocked-out tooth, then contact our team today to learn more. We want to help safeguard little smiles, and address injuries before they threaten oral health and tooth stability!
