Kids Who Gag During Visits: Help Is Here!
Does your child gag (or worry about gagging) during dental checkups and, as a result, you feel really unsure about what to do? You’d really love to tell your kiddo that he or she never has to receive professional dental care again (and you would love to never have to worry about it again)! However, you know that twice-annual preventive care is 100 percent necessary and absolutely worthwhile. First, our Dallas, TX team reminds you: This is not unusual! Next, we happily inform you: We can absolutely help with this. Just follow our simple advice!
Let Us Know, Please!
We really want you to remember that the best approach with gagging or any other situation that makes you feel uncertain about dental checkups is to let us know ahead of time. Don’t feel as though you need to try to figure things out on your own or to convince your kiddo to just try really hard. Instead, bring us into the loop in terms of what’s going on, so we’re part of the conversation, and so we can help!
Teach Your Child Relaxation Techniques
While we certainly suggest transparency and don’t expect your child to suddenly control his or her gag reflex, we do encourage you to offer your child some relaxation techniques. Explain that taking a deep breath and relaxing each and every muscle (you can practice this together) is very helpful to feel nice during dental checkups. You may also want to teach your child to think about something else, such as a happy thought, and practice this as well!
We’ll Do A Bit Of Detective Work
Remember, we are thoroughly “in the know” in terms of what your child goes through (and what you go through), when you’re moving along through this introductory part of the dental care journey! The goal is always to help your child (and you) feel absolutely relaxed, wonderful, and comfortable with smile care. As a pediatric dental practice, we strive to ensure your kiddo , so cultivating excellent habits is easy. Remember that we will happily take it upon ourselves to figure out how we can help (perhaps by identifying flavors your child dislikes or areas of uncertainty we can address), to offer exceptionally gentle care, and to assist your child in enjoying calm visits with us!
Bring Kids In For Relaxing Dental Care
Don’t forget that it is our goal just as much as it is yours that your child enjoys a relaxing, fun dental visit each and every time we meet! Let us know if you have any questions for our team!
