Summer Smile Safety Suggestion: Schedule Sealants!
Spring seems like it just began but before you know it, summer will be here and you’ll have all of that lovely summer vacation time to get stuff done. Just in case the list you’ve been making for “things I need to accomplish while the kids are on break from school” doesn’t include dental sealants for your children, we strongly suggest you go ahead and tack them on there! Of course, since you just might like some reasons why we think sealants are worthy of a spot on your time-off list, we’ve got them ready for you!
It’s So Easy When School’s Out Of Session
You may already take kids out of school for other priorities throughout the year, which means the more you can pack into summer, the better. We always like to give parents an annual reminder that if there’s anything you would like to schedule, whether it’s dental sealants, cleanings and checkups, or otherwise, calling us right now to choose the day and time that works for you in the summer is a very good idea!
Summertime Is Full Of Smile Dangers
Well, we don’t want to make it sound so ominous but summer really is full of things that, though they often seem nutritious, can encourage cavities. It’s also a relaxing time when even you may throw caution to the wind! So, why not add protection to ensure kids’ smiles are extra safe (and, if you know your sealants, you know they may offer protection for as long as 10 years!)? Remember the following summertime cavity culprits:
- Fruit (often eaten fresh, in pies, etc.) can soften enamel and make decay more likely
- Sugar encourages cavities (and when you’re at a summer BBQ, there’s not always a chance to brush)
- Summertime favorites like lemonade and other acidic and sugary drinks weaken enamel, too
