The Stuff You Can’t Believe Your Kids Eat
You’ve seen it. Candy that looks like toothpaste. Cookies in flavors you can’t imagine wanting. Super sour stuff that kids compete over, seeing who can withstand the discomfort! Trends come and go with your kids and their friends and sometimes, you don’t know what to do about it because you’re a bit beside yourself. You certainly wouldn’t touch it, so how to react? Not to worry. Focus on keeping your kids’ oral health safe and the rest will change as they get older. For now, try some tips.
Remember When You Were A Kid
Think back to the stuff you were excited about when you were a child. Maybe you had sour candy competitions, toted around a huge jawbreaker with you everywhere you went, or were very amazed by anything watermelon flavored. Whatever it was, your kids’ taste buds are just not quite as experienced as yours yet! Keep their oral health safe with dental hygiene and preventive visits, and all is well.
Set Some Rules
What your kids are eating may disturb you just a little bit but remember, it’s all about keeping mouths safe. Set boundaries: Let them eat it at particular times, so you can make sure they rinse their mouths with water. That way, it’s not an all-day sticky candy marathon (and oral health remains protected).
Offer An Alternative
Not in love with the stuff your kids are eating? Offer the organic cookies you prefer they ate instead. Cut up fruit slices as a snack, so they reach for it when they’re hungry instead of the other stuff they’re craving. It’s often an easy fix.
Don’t Keep It In The House
Make all the sugary stuff something for special times only, which means don’t bring it home. As a result, your kids can have it when they’re out with friends or as a treat!
