2 Things We’d Rather You Didn’t Do

We know that it can be tricky to figure out whether you’re overreacting or if you’re under-reacting and, as a result, leaving your child’s oral health vulnerable to possible problems. Generally speaking, we say that if it is something you don’t know how to do or are not trained to do, call us to schedule a dental visit. One of the easiest ways to figure out when it’s a good idea to call us and when you can just stay home is to err on the side of being just a little overprotective and then working your way from there! For now, let’s talk about a couple things that we really don’t want you trying on your own.

#1: Try To Address Stains

If your child’s teeth are starting to look a bit discolored or if you notice a stain, do not try to fix this on your own. Keep up with usual dental hygiene but steer clear of any whitening products, of the urge to scrub your child’s teeth with baking soda, etc. If stains are occurring, call us and schedule a visit, so we can talk with you about whether any oral health issues require treatment, in addition to the safest and smartest way to handle the shade shift.

#2: Use Anything Other Than The Usual Products

We know that when your child has something caught between his or her teeth, you don’t want to come see us. You want to get it out on your own. However, we urge you in this and all other instances not to take on the role of dentist. If your child brushes and flosses and still, that bit of food is stuck, do not seek out other objects that seem like dental tools. Protect oral health by simply giving us a call.
