Not sure what to do now that your kids are grownup? When your 18-year-old heads off to school, the usual dynamic of parent-taking-care-of-child’s-smile starts to shift. Fortunately, the dental care transition can be an easy one for everyone! Take some hints to heart.

Talk With Your Kids About Dental Care

Up until now, it’s been easy to be on autopilot, scheduling dental care for your kids when they need it, picking up dental hygiene products at the store, and keeping the cabinets stocked with essentials. Now, however, your kids are off to school! It helps to talk with them about your expectations, what they need to remember to do, what types of products to buy, etc.

Send Your Kids What They Need, If You Wish

Of course, even after a lengthy talk, you know your kids might not remember to head to the drugstore for floss or a new brush when the time comes. Dental care products happen to be an easy addition to surprise care packages that you can send their way!

Figure Out How You Feel

Your kids are still your kids and they’re still 18, which means they will still be seeing us! The easiest thing to do at this point is to continue calling us up to set up cleanings, checkups, and other forms of care. Your grownup kids will be home now and then (especially when school is out for summer and during longer breaks for wintertime holidays). These are excellent times to schedule whatever they need. As for the transition into adulthood, figure out if you’d like them to take the reins or if you’ll be taking care of this detail through the college years. It’s up to you!
