Key Care for Your Kids’ Smiles This Summer
Summer break is in full swing, now, but soon it will be time for your kids to head back to school. Before they go, make sure to take advantage of their freer schedules, by getting their smiles the care they need to head into another academic year both healthy and beautiful. Summertime is a wonderful opportunity to visit the pediatric dentist for checkups and cleanings, as well as any necessary restorative dentistry they might need. That way, they can walk into their classrooms on the first day of school, with confidence, knowing their smiles look and feel their best!
How Often Should Kids Visit the Dentist?
In general, most kids need to visit the pediatric dentist for checkups and cleanings at least twice a year. Summer break is an easy time to schedule appointments, since you don’t have to worry about the kids missing important classes or exams. Winter break generally falls six months after summer vacation, as well, making it easy to schedule their follow-up visits.
If your kids are particularly prone to cavities, however, they may require more frequent visits to prevent dental problems. Ask your dentist, at your kids’ next appointment, if there is anything else you should be doing to help protect their teeth. In some cases, dental sealants may be recommended as added protection against cavities. In other cases, the dentist may want to review proper dental hygiene techniques with your kids.
It’s also helpful to remember that even young children can struggle with oral health issues, so don’t wait to get your kids the preventive care their smiles need.
