Is It A Dental Emergency?

First things first, you will need to distinguish between a dental emergency and a true medical emergency. Just because it involves your child’s teeth or mouth does not mean it’s necessarily a problem appropriate for an emergency dentistry visit. Here’s how to make a quick determination:

• Ask yourself is your child’s life is in danger – this is often the case if your child is losing a significant amount of blood. If the answer is yes, then contact 911 or bring your child to your nearest ER.
• Ask yourself if your child requires the immediate care of a dentist – if the answer is yes, you are dealing with a dental emergency. These usually include a broken tooth, a dislodged tooth, or sudden severe discomfort that will not go away.
