Don’t Worry, Accidents Happen!
Realizing your child has experienced a sudden accident is scary enough without accompanying discomfort that you may not know how to address. Fortunately, we offer emergency dentistry for your child, so you know just where to turn and what to do when a dental mishap occurs. While this may offer you some relief, you may still feel unsure about exactly how to respond when your child’s smile has been compromised by sudden pain or trauma. By learning a bit more about how to react to a smile emergency with the following information, you can feel prepared and confident about keeping your child’s teeth healthy even when something unexpected happens.
Is It A Dental Emergency?
First things first, you will need to distinguish between a dental emergency and a true medical emergency. Just because it involves your child’s teeth or mouth does not mean it’s necessarily a problem appropriate for an emergency dentistry visit. Here’s how to make a quick determination:
- Ask yourself is your child’s life is in danger – this is often the case if your child is losing a significant amount of blood. If the answer is yes, then contact 911 or bring your child to your nearest ER.
- Ask yourself if your child requires the immediate care of a dentist – if the answer is yes, you are dealing with a dental emergency. These usually include a broken tooth, a dislodged tooth, or sudden severe discomfort that will not go away.
What To Do
