Steps For Keeping Kids Comfortable

When children need to see the dentist, they may feel a little nervous. As experienced pediatric dentists, we know this and take steps to help ensure kids of all ages feel comfortable when they see us, enjoying a positive experience. In today’s blog, your team at Pediatric Dental Care at Casa Linda in Dallas, TX, talks about sedation options and more, which can help kids enjoy a comfortable treatment experience.

Laser Dentistry

We help ensure a comfortable visit for children with the use of advanced technology. For example, to make a diagnosis with precision and plan treatment with accuracy, we employ digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, no need for uncomfortable bitewings! With CaviSense, we can also identify a common issue that causes discomfort, tooth decay, much sooner.

Our team is also proud to offer laser dentistry. With dental lasers, we replace the need for more invasive treatments, using this to comfortably treat soft tissues concerns, cold and canker sores, and even aid in treating cavities with shot-free dental fillings. The technology is safe, quiet, and provides care that heals quickly.

Dental Sedation

We also help children of all ages, even those with dental anxiety and special needs, with dental sedation. These treatments are administered to help kids reach a deep state of calm and euphoria, often with little to no memory of the procedure at all. We have three options and choose based on age, weight, medical history and medications being taken, anxiety keels, and special needs.

We can offer nitrous oxide, which is inhaled through a mask over the nose, to offer instant calming. We can easily adjust levels during treatment and the effects end quickly, so kids could even return to school! For a deeper calming, we could offer oral conscious sedation before the procedure begins, so kids reach a greater state of calm. They will likely have no memory of the process, and the effects will take time to wear off completely, so no returning to school that day.

The deepest form offers children the chance to be in a more sleep-like state and is helpful for severe anxiety. Administered intravenously, IV sedation also means no memory of the process, and again effects that take time to wear off.

If you have any questions about how we calm children and ensure they enjoy their time in our office, or if you want to schedule a back-to-school checkup and cleaning for them, then contact our team!
