A Calm Experience With Dental Sedation

When kids have dental anxiety or special needs, or if they are undergoing a more extensive treatment option, we can help. To ensure a comfortable and positive treatment experience, we can choose from three different forms of dental sedation. In today’s blog, Pediatric Dental Care at Casa Linda talks about sedation for kids in Dallas, TX!
When Kids Need a Calming Solution (and How We Choose One)
When do children need dental sedation? This could help calm children with serious anxiety about the dentist, and even make undergoing care simple for children with special needs. We could offer these treatments to ensure comfort during more involved procedures too, such as crown placement, pulpotomy treatments, or even tooth extraction.
The option we choose for them will be based on age, weight, medical history, anxiety levels, and other factors. Our team members include individuals who have been board-certified to administer sedation to kids of all ages, and who are also members of the Pediatric Dental Anesthesia Associates. We have the experience necessary to ensure a comfortable and positive experience for your little ones!
Dental Sedation Options
We can select from three different calming options to help kids enjoy their time in the office. The most common and mild form is nitrous oxide, which we administer through a mask over the nose. Kids enter a deep state of calm, and the levels can be adjusted mid-treatment as needed, and the effects wear off once the procedure does, so children can even return to school.
If your little one requires a more substantial calming effect, we can offer oral conscious in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure. They enter a deeper state of calm, with no memory of the process, and the effects may take a little time to wear off completely.
The deepest form of calming is IV and is administered intravenously, and is used for severe phobias or children undergoing more extensive treatments. They enter a deep and sleep-like state with little to no memory of the process at all. They will be a little groggy as the effects take time to wear off completely.
