Helping You Recognize What We’re Checking Up On During Checkups
Part of you may shrug your shoulders and think, “Okay, I guess we’ll go in for a dental checkup but I’m not really sure why it’s time for another one!” We understand. You’re busy. Your child’s smile looks fine. Nobody is complaining. So, why do you have to come in for a children’s dental exam when it seems like all is perfectly okay? Well, our Dallas, TX team wants you to remember that checkups aren’t all about finding problems. They’re really about preventing them (and doing something about any concerns that have just begun). Let’s help you feel much more enthusiastic about this part of prevention.
We’re Checking Out Function
Is everything working A-OK? This is something we’re looking for during a dental checkup. Is your child’s smile opening and closing without any discomfort or funny symptoms like a popping jaw? Does your child have any habits that are getting in the way of optimal function? We’ll find out! If so, we can nip this is in the bud!
We’re Checking Out Tooth Structure
Our team wants you to remember we’re checking the structure of your child’s teeth to make sure there’s no existing damage, such as cracks or chips, that could negatively affect the health of your child’s oral health. If so, we will fix the issues! If all is well, we will see you in six months to make sure all is still well!
We’re Checking Hygiene-Related Health
Is your child brushing and flossing well? During dental checkups, we are also checking in on the results of dental hygiene. If there’s any decay, for instance, we may suggest a filling and offer tips for better brushing and flossing. As a result, we can get rid of that cavity right away, before it causes any trauma, discomfort, or serious damage.
We’re Checking Out Development!
As you know, kids hit developmental milestones all the time as they grow! The same is true for their oral health. One part of dental checkups and the need for them to happen every six months? It allows us to watch what’s going on with your child’s grin as it grows. If all is right on track, we will tell you. If at any point there’s any question about the timing of growth or the way tissues are growing, we can question them right away and create a plan to better guide your child’s smile, rather than waiting until after the fact.
