Early Detection With CaviSense

Our team is excited to add a new form of cavity diagnosis with CaviSense! This can allow us to catch the earliest signs of decay, often weeks or months before an x-ray would, and in a matter of seconds. In today’s blog, your team at Pediatric Dental Care at Casa Linda talks about early cavity detection or little smiles in Dallas, TX.

When to See Our Team

Obviously, when your child reports pain in a tooth, you should see us right away. At this stage, decay could be more severe and there could be a risk of infection or even the loss of a tooth without care. But we also want to see your children every six months for a checkup and cleaning. When they attend these routine visits, we have a chance to monitor their smiles closely and examine them with advanced digital imaging, so we can identify issues in the early stages, often before your child even experiences discomfort, and then provide solutions. We’ve just added a new diagnostic technology with the CaviSense system!

The CaviSense Process

When we catch decay in the very earliest stages of demineralization, we could strengthen the area and prevent cavities with Curodont treatment, applying a special ingredient that strengthens the enamel. We could also halt decay with options like Silver Diamine Fluoride. But to do so, we need to catch the issue early, and with CaviSense, we can do so in seconds, and weeks or months before other systems could identify decay!

The small device will contain a tiny tip that absorbs a bit of biofilm from the surfaces of your teeth. If the tip encounters biofilm with a pH of less than 5.5, it changes color. This pH level is the point at which enamel erodes due to decay, so we can catch the issue in seconds at the earliest possible point! For kids, this is a fast and comfortable process.

What Happens Next?

Next, we can plan the treatment necessary to strengthen the enamel and reverse the issue, or prevent it from progressing, preventing the need for a restoration like a filling or crown. Our team can also discuss preventive measures to help strengthen the teeth and lower the risk of tooth decay in the months to come. If you have any questions about how we diagnose and treat cavities, or about the new CaviSense system, then contact our team today to learn more and get started. We want kids to start school in the fall with a stronger and healthier smile, so see us soon!
