Beat The Summer Heat With Free Splash and Spray Parks And Fountains
After months of what seemed like never-ending spring rain storms, the Texas summer heat has struck. With temperatures already in the high 90s, the heat index has almost been a steady 103 degrees! If your kids are tired of being stuck in the air-conditioning this early during summer vacation, beat the summer heat by visiting these free splash and spray parks and fountains. The key word here is FREE!
Don’t Hibernate!
Don’t let the Texas heat force you into hibernation this summer, enjoy the opportunities your community offers. There are many free activities around the area that you and your family can enjoy and Dallas has 10 spray-grounds that are nice for a mini respite from the heat, including two new locations this year. Below are a few places where you and your family can cool off for the day:
LAKE HIGHLANDS: The Lake Highlands location has the classic buckets, rings that spray you as you walk through them, and jets of water that spring up from the ground. Nearby is Lake Highlands North Recreation Center, and White Rock Lake is under three miles away.
LOCATION: 9940 White Rock Trail, Dallas.
MAIN STREET GARDEN: The park on Main Street in Dallas has a flowing layer of water that keeps your feet nice and cool as you walk around, as well as a few benches within the fountain space, so you your little ones can sit.
Inside the park there’s a mini playground, a lawn, and a dog run. A Rusty Taco with a shaded seating area is nearby, and within about a mile radius is the Old Red Museum of Dallas County History & Culture, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Thanks-Giving Square, and the Dallas Arts District. No need to be hot or bored!
LOCATION: Main Street between St. Paul and Harwood streets, downtown Dallas.
