You want your child to have a confident and healthy smile. Regular brushing, flossing, and checkups can help with that. But sometimes tooth decay occurs even when preventive efforts have been followed. When this happens, a cavity forms, and if left untreated, it could grow larger and cause other dental issues. A dental filling helps protect against a cavity developing further, and restores the health and beauty of your child’s tooth.
What are Dental Fillings?
Dental fillings are safe and are sometimes made from silver or other metals. The ones we use are made of tooth-colored composite, which is a synthetic acrylic-resin material. This is beneficial because composite fillings are mercury-free, attach directly to teeth, and reduce temperature-related sensitivity.
How is the Treatment Done?
We begin by explaining the treatment steps to you and your child and then clean the tooth that needs the filling. The tooth and the surrounding area will be numbed with a local anesthetic. We may also offer dental sedation to help your child be more at ease. Once the tooth is numb, we will gently and thoroughly remove the decayed tissue from the cavity. Afterward, we’ll fill the tooth with the composite, which we will color-match to the surrounding teeth.
