What would you say if we asked if you’re a master flosser? If you could say that you certainly floss every day like you’re supposed to but you’re not so sure about how good you are at flossing, then we remind you of one important detail: Your kids’ dental hygiene is only going to be as good as your own, since you’re the primary teacher in your home. To make sure everyone in your household is on track with this essential detail, let’s make our way through a quick review.
Start With Lot Of Floss
It’s important to keep in mind that you may need more than you think! We suggest beginning by tearing off floss measuring around 18 inches in length. Yep, that’s correct! While you only need a little bit between two teeth, you don’t want to reuse that spot over and over (otherwise, you’re just moving bacteria along from one area to another). Start at one end, use it between to teeth, then slide over to a fresh portion of that floss strand, and so on and so forth. This allows you to efficiently cleanse with fresh floss throughout your whole smile.
Don’t pop, snap, or hurry the floss between teeth. Your dental hygiene is only going to be effective if you’re gentle along the way. Otherwise, flossing may irritate, injure, or aggravate gum tissue, which is not what we want!
Start Low And Bend It!
Remember this: Begin with floss positioned just beneath your gumline, so you’re getting thorough plaque removal during dental hygiene. Bend it to the side, partially wrapping it around one tooth edge. Repeat on the next-door tooth. It’s much more effective than simply moving it up and down!
