Smile Care Before Bed: 3 Things To Remember

Ah, yes. That luxurious (and sometimes challenging) period of time we know as “getting ready for bed.” Everyone put their pajamas on and it’s time to head into the bathroom, brush teeth, and then get cozy in bed for the night. If you’re getting through this experience with smiling faces and a ton of cooperation, we are so happy to hear it! We would also like to make some suggestions for things to remember as they relate to these sessions. They will ensure that all of your hard work actually pays off for your children’s oral health.

#1: Always Brush!

Don’t skip a brushing session. Whether it’s in the morning or evening, you need to complete both. Your kids will learn that twice-daily brushing is part of life, they will keep their teeth clean, and they will avoid issues like decay and gum inflammation that can become more likely when they miss even a single brushing routine.

#2: Schedule Your Nighttime Routine

Yes, we know that it can be difficult sometimes to get through nighttime brushing. So, we encourage you to schedule your nighttime routine. That way, there are no surprises. There’s no getting your little one out of bed when he or she is already very sleepy. It makes it much easier to ensure this oral health detail occurs with success.

#3: Don’t Eat Or Drink Anything (But Water)

After you’ve made your way through your children’s dental hygiene routine for the evening, you don’t want to ruin all of that hard work! You also want your little ones to form some solid habits for their oral health. As a result, it’s important to remember that your child (this goes for you, too) should not eat or drink anything after nighttime care unless it’s water. Other foods and drinks will coat teeth and promote issues like decay.
